For years Murphy’s Law has been treated as the excuse for all those errors and mistakes that happen in every person’s life. According to the widely known definition, Murphy’s Law says that “If something can go wrong, it will”. However, according to the latest study made by Canadian researchers, the verification and checking procedures can improve structural safety and performance, thus avoiding the “law” application.

Franz Knoll, the Engineer of Nicolet Chartrand Knoll Ltd., based in Montreal, Quebec, explains in his International Journal of Reliability and Safety that the majority of misfortunes that people face are due to a human error, lack of competence, attention or communication. However, humans won’t admit their mistakes easily and that is why they tend to make up all kinds of the external factors responsible for their problems, “Murphy’s Law” included.

Knoll emphasizes that owing to scientific analysis they have proved what stays behind arising problems and errors. Let us take natural phenomena, for example. In most cases the probability of their occurrence can be predicted and quantified. Volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunami and hurricanes have fatal consequence for the native inhabitants because of the human shortcomings. Similarly, when it comes to the construction of buildings and bridges, it is the human failings that are to be blame for the disasters that may happen. According to Knoll, a targeted strategy for the apprehension and correction of human errors is the essence of outtricking the Murphy’s law. As for the construction safety issues, hiring experienced and qualified engineers prevents the risk of making mistakes and as a result makes the Murphy’s law virtually inapplicable.

Distributing CD’s of your work is a great way of reaching out to the crowd. People will know what to expect from you once they become familiar with your voice. If you are good, they will come back for more. But, when you are opting for this type of promotion, you should keep in mind that you will have to provide quality CD’s among the crowd. Your voice may not create the same impact if the disc quality is not good enough. In addition to this, you should remember that people will play and replay the disc. The CD’s should be able to withstand the intensity.

You cannot manufacture these CD’s at home. This is not a possible task for one person. You will require the help of professionals with experience of disc manufacturing. When you get down to search for a company specialized in CD duplication California, you will be surprised to come up with several such companies. Each one of them will promise you the similar thing. Then how will you select the one right for you? How will you know who will do the job better? You cannot compromise with the matter of quality at this point of time. There are ways to determine which one to select and which to let go of.

To duplicate a disc, the company will require technology. This technology will let you know what kind of disc you can expect from the company. Ask about their method of duplicating discs. If the technology they use is the latest one, you can be assured that you will get quality CD. Do not despair if you are technology impaired. You can always find out about this from Internet resource or books available. Read and gather information on the topic this will help you a great deal while selecting the company.

When you place the order, you automatically get into a contract with the company. And every contract has some terms and conditions. Discuss this before signing anything. If you do not understand anything ask again. But do not get involved in anything without proper knowledge. Make sure that you know what service you will receive from the company.

When a company decides to emphasize on the development of core business, automatically it decides to outsource the non-core and IT related functions to a company where it can be performed at lower costs.

As the business world is becoming more reliant on Information Technology (IT), it is important that it your IT set up supports your business plan. As a part of developing IT plans, you have to identify what IT capabilities you business needs.

If it is a law firm, a medical house, or a brokerage firm, business security is the first priority. If you deal in customer service management that heavily relies on employees and customers, you need collaborative communication system such as exchange service. Thus, you have to decide on the type of IT infrastructure your business demands. Better the planning you have done for it, higher the chance you will avoid wastes and inefficiency.

Small businesses too need a solid IT infrastructure and communication system. When it comes to choosing servers, networking system and switches every business needs a solid backbone to control them. You also have to select critical hardware components and do software installation to ensure your business IT system is fast, secure and reliable. Unless you have a reliable IT support company taking care of all these requirements your business cannot move ahead.

Here are a few things one must ensure while setting up an IT infrastructure.

Plan while picking a server or a workstation. Since your business will increase in size with time, you have to manage multiple users in a centralised computer system. You need to ensure that the system is not overloaded, slow and non-responsive, just because another 10 computers have been added to it.

Act smart while buying hardware equipments. It is better to buy cheaper hardware that can be extended for future expansion than paying double for inadequate hardware.

Do not just buy a server to run your domain controller and email. Plan what your business is up to and want to be. Make best use of any resource you use.

Buy proprietary software and update with latest version of it.

Consider a solid backup support system.

Once all these steps are complete, you can say that your business IT infrastructure is in the right direction.

Oh the joy of having the little one finally here! The job of carrying the bundle is now over and it’s time for the big world to finally meet the little one.

The problem with that is anything curve ball can be thrown your way especially, when you’re traveling. This is probably one of the toughest things to get a grasp of because it takes practice and planning for everything in order to be a pro.

Here’s a few tips for all you new parents to ease the transition.

Seating on a plane- If you need two plane seats then book the window seat and the aisle seat in the back of plane so you are closer to attendants and the bathroom. The middle seat is always the last to become filled because no one likes to sit in between two other people. If the flight isn’t booked then if someone happens to sit in between your two seats they’re usually more than happy to move to give you the whole row.

Leave with lots of time to spare- If you have a child you want to leave your house 2-2.5 hours early to avoid traffic and any stops you are going to have to make (diaper change, feeding time, etc.) so that you have ample time to check in your bags and go through security.

Packing early- Create a list a month before the flight. Why? Because then you can assess all the things you have used that month and how much you will need when you leave. Then you can always add things onto your list or take them off. Always bring diapers, wipes, formula, toys, chewable toys for teething babies, clothes, baby Tylenol, children’s gas drops (flights sometimes gives babies digestive problems from stress), thermometer, blanket, and nail filer/clipper. These are the essentials the rest is up to you.

It’s all about the ears- Make sure that the baby doesn’t suck on his/her pacifier to the airport and through the check in and security. They’ll eventually get bored with it and there’s going to be problems throughout the fight. Once you’re settled in your seats give them their pacifier so that it helps their ears throughout the flight.

Ship it- If you are going to be gone for a long period of time (longer than 3-4 days) then I suggest purchasing some items online and having it shipped to the address of the place you will be staying. This way all the items you’ll need will be there when you arrive. That way you can have everything there and ready for you. No need to run to the store.

Each child is different so the first flight will always be the hardest. These few tips should lessen the stress by a long shot however; make sure that it’s also a learning experience for the next time. Flight attendants are always helpful as well they usually always have backup items to help fliers and their kids be extremely comfortable.

Many people turn to LinkedIn when they need help finding a job, whether they’re itching for a position change or looking for fast employment after a layoff. That’s the wrong time to start using LinkedIn. To harness the platform’s networking power, you’ve got to groom your LinkedIn presence while you’re employed. Like your resume, LinkedIn should be a reflection of what you’re working on, where you’ve worked, and who you know. Your LinkedIn profile can actually complement your resume, creating an online presence that allows employers to seamlessly explore your resume and your work history through this online.

Connecting on LinkedIn

Since LinkedIn allows you to search for connections by entering your email, you won’t have trouble finding people to follow. You can also search by company, university or browse the site’s suggestions of people you may know, generally people your connections know.

While most casual LinkedIn users know how to add connections, don’t overlook the Groups feature. Join Groups that reflect your interests, like alumni groups for schools you attended or professional-interest groups. The “Groups You May Like” feature connects you with a click to groups that share your career interests, and you can also search for specific Groups. Be active on Groups and participate in discussions to stay current in your field. When you’re ready to make a career move, put out feelers in Groups.

Getting recommendations

Don’t be shy about asking for recommendations on LinkedIn. Once you connect to coworkers, clients, fellow college students and peers, ask them to write you a recommendation. LinkedIn even has a template for you to make the process easier! Collect recommendations from schoolmates and coworkers across ranks. If you’re reluctant to ask your current employees, look to connect with peers in professional organizations, past employers, past coworkers, and others. If you’re not yet in the corporate world, it’s still important to connect with your college friends, classmates, and professors. They may be the links you need in landing that first job. Reading others’ rave reviews gives potential employers a vision of your work style, achievements, and personality. The reviews can reinforce your resume accomplishments by calling attention to the same traits you highlight. Think of LinkedIn recommendations like less formal references, and ones that you get to curate and groom.

Integrating with your resume

Ramping up your LinkedIn presence is only one part of the equation. In order to draw employers’ attention to your LinkedIn profile, you’ve got to market it. Sure, you can assume potential employers will look for you on the site–and they may–but promote your LinkedIn presence yourself. You’ve worked hard on it. Display your LinkedIn URL on your resume. Create a signature for your personal or professional email that links to your LinkedIn profile.

Benefits

Not only will using LinkedIn at a higher level allow employers to learn more about you, it helps demonstrate your competence with social media. If you tweet, use an RSS plugin to display your Twitter feed on LinkedIn. When you put in the time to master all the features of this site, including searching for connections, joining and participating in groups, and following discussions, you gain skills you can use across social media sites.

LinkedIn might not be the first place to start when job searching, but the website is full of resources that will be essential to ramping up your search. Get familiar with the tools, and use them often to start building your professional network. There are dozens of job searching networks online but, when used correctly, LinkedIn can be the one that makes a real difference for you.

Sumata Mitra created the Hole-In-The-Wall system developed to promote self-education and critical thinking skills in children.

The name derived from a test Sumata conducted in New Delhi where he placed a computer with high speed internet access and a touch screen into a hole in the wall. The purpose of the test was to see if children on the street would attempt to use it without knowing exactly what it was.

Within eight hours two children approached the screen and began to experiment with it. While the children didn’t have knowledge on how computers worked they quickly caught on to the concept of controlling the action through the touch screen.

By the end of the first day 70 children had come over to use it. From this Sumata determined that children in groups can self-instruct each other. He also understood that entertaining children while educating them is an effective method of teaching.

Sumata’s notion that children can use games to educate themselves has caught on here in the United States and has grown in popularity over the last few years. Children are playing games from kindergarten through high school, and educators are using games to their advantage by providing students with opportunities to learn and entertain.

Here a few games that are entertaining and educational.

Mithril: Incorporates online multiplayer role-playing where users must use mathematical concepts to casts spells.

Dimensionu.com: Features tons of educational games for students ranging from grades k-12. All of the games are math skill oriented and they sell curriculum packs for use in the classroom or home.

Gamestar Mechanic: Allows students to create their own game and developing puzzles and different tasks for other players to complete.

PBS has provided educational programming for years on television, and now they are transitioning into educational gaming. Children can log onto the site and see games featuring their favorite characters from TV.

There is a Curious George game called Piñata Party that teaches children how to speak Spanish. In the process of playing they are also learning how to pronounce words and read in English, how to properly use the mouse, and a number of other skills.

These young children become internet savvy, and as they grow they are able to transition from playing educational games to using the web to research for assignments and create multi-media presentations. High schools across the nation have begun to offer more online course options to prepare students for the next level. The focus on this has grown as more students are pursuing a degree through online school and taking online courses at traditional “brick and mortar” colleges.

It is an exciting time for education with the development of new technologies being molded to teach and entertain. Young people have access to resources like never before and they are encouraged to educate themselves. Soon parents may be encouraging their children to play games instead of turning them off to study.

Pub benches are the central hub to a great night in the pub. You’ve got your friends, nice comfy seats and a glass of your favourite tipple, so just what could possibly be more important than somewhere other than a pub bench in which enjoy your day or evening?

Aside being just a convenient spot for your glass though, there’s a whole host of events and activities that take place on and around our favourite piece of pub furniture.

Drinking and chatting of course are going to be your main reason for coming to the pub in the first place. There’s no better place in which to unwind and convene than the local after all! The table is an absolutely essential piece of kit to keep your drink stable and keep the conversation flowing. You’ll know how important a bench or table is in a busy pub too. Finding one unoccupied in a situation like this is like finding gold dust.

It also helps to have a suitable place to put your plate when eating of course. When was the last time you had to sit with a Sunday pub lunch on your lap?! Good pubs will have plenty of adequate seating for diners. They may in face even reserve more quality furniture especially for this purpose, complete with a throw to keep the eating surface in the best possible condition for each and every customer.

You’ve got your fun activities too. Once again, just imagine trying to complete the pub quiz if you’re forced to stand and use your best mate’s back for an improvised table – it just doesn’t happen! If your pub landlord is savvy-enough, they’ll always make sure that you’ve got the right table for the floor space, allowing you to complete the quiz without having to lean awkwardly away from the table and risk giving away those precious answers.

We all long for that wonderful companionship that really changes our lives…. No I’m not talking about a human companion. We’re talking pets! It’s especially hard to find a pet that’s apartment friendly. It’s hard to find the perfect pet that takes up little space and to nurture and care for an animal that needs exercise is not option in an apartment. This article will introduce you to pets that are ideal for little apartments and that can even add good vibes to your new home. We’re going to split these ideal apartment pets into 3 categories: Terrestrial, Oceanic, and Warming.

Terrestrial

Some pets can add some flare to a cool apartment theme. Some even bring out that extra visual appeal to the whole place. Try considering an amphibian or reptile. Geckos, turtles, toads, salamander, and even dragons can add an extra pizzazz into the room. They are also pets that are easy to care for and take little room. They require a tank that’s at least 10 gallons and 10 gallon tanks are usually no bigger than 2 feet. All you have to do is feed your little creature once a week (depending on which pet you go with) and clean their tank when needed. These pets go great with modern and neutral tones in the apartment and tend to stick out and wow guests. The only con to these creatures is that they may require you to drop some crickets into a tank. Some find this a drawback but the good news is they have dead ones for sale as well if you can’t find the courage to take on live action.

Oceanic

Oceanic pets are the most majestic of all. You can bring home the magic of the sea and let them add that calming air to your home. You don’t need to get the boring single goldfish if you don’t want to. Salt water fish always add extra cool points to any pad. You can always add any decoration to match your home. You can make fishes tank safari themed, oceanic themed, castle themed, etc. Not into fish? How about hermit crabs? Their decorated shells can boost up their dull appearances and they’re very easy to maintain. Just some dry food and water is all the need and they’re fairly easy to maintain. Only con is since you can’t really interact with the fish you may not be able to form an emotional bond.

Warming

For those of us who want a pet that sits on your lap and cuddles up with you this is your category. We’re going to discuss small pets that require little activity. Some small pets that you can consider is ferret, rabbit, guinea pigs, etc. They’re pretty self content but love the physical and emotional contact when they do have it. Since these are furry animals they require a lot more maintenance than the above but not too much. These little furry guys however, so smell a little bit when it comes time to use the bathroom. They’re not as bad as let’s say a dog or cat but all animals so carry these with them so daily clean ups are a must! They’re friendly, adorable, and cuddly and are less costly than bigger pets.

Although the above pets are great animals to add to a home make sure to do some extra research to see which pet is right for you. Always make sure to ask the landlord and any roommates you have if its OK to bring a new pet to your home.

Are you someone who sits for long periods of time typing? Are you a blogger or freelance writer? If so, then chances are good that your workstation is not set up optimally. More specifically, your ergonomics are off. Setting up a work station which reduces stress and improves overall function and efficiency should be your goal if you are going to be spending large portions of your time sitting at a desk. Let’s cover the four ways you can increase the ergonomic functionality of your work station.

What is Ergonomics?

First and foremost, let’s help you understand what ergonomics is. Basically, it is a series of techniques and principles which are designed to improve health, safety, productivity, and comfort for people. By efficiently setting up your workstation within these guidelines, you lessen or even the eliminate the amounts of stress on joints and muscles thus, lowering the chance of long-term health issues.

Always make sure that you are receiving your ergonomics tips from a reliable resource. Someone who is a specialist in solving back pain might also be able to help you. More specifically, don’t take any advice if it isn’t backed by some sort of scientific evidence or reputable and respected person. Also realize that everyone’s body is different so some of the guidelines in this article will work for you and some may not. Take what works and use it and get rid of those things which don’t work.

Normalizing Your Work Station

In general, there are four areas of your work station which should be considered when you are making changes. They are:

Monitor

Keyboard

Chair

Lighting/Environment

It is important that you set these elements up correctly. This will reduce stress on joints and muscles and ultimately increase your productivity. With that being said, let’s go more in-depth on each of these four areas.

1.) The Monitor

Your monitor plays a bigger role than just being a screen to look at. It plays a crucial role in the ergonomic foundation. The first thing you have to do is minimize as much glare as possible from both lighting and windows. The second step is to keep your monitor as far as you can away from your face while still being able to read the words on it. This is going to take some trial and error until you find the ideal distance.

2.) Lighting

Basically, you want your work station have as much lighting as possible without being forced to wear sun glasses. Experiment until you locate the ideal amount of light because you don’t want to make it so dark to the point where you are forcing your eyes to adjust. Here is another important concept to remember: don’t us task lighting when you are doing work on your computer. If you must use it, keep it to an absolute minimum. Some great advice is to mix fluorescent and incandescent light. This reduces flicker and creates some solid lighting for your work station.

3.) The Keyboard

The keyboard is one of the main areas where people tend to use very bad habits. For one, most people don’t keep their wrists straight while they are typing. This can be detrimental and lead to long term joint issues. Experts suggest that you should never use a wrist rest while you are typing in your work station. While some people think that these are great ideas, they can actually cause more harm to your body than good. Finally, make sure that you are not using any supports while you are typing. Instead, keep your wrists slightly inverted inwards (from top to bottom) for optimal positioning.

4.) The Chair

Use arm rests if you have the option. These can give you the extra support you need to work effectively. Next, you need to consider having some form of lumber support built into your chair. Place your feet firmly on the floor. Last but not least, make sufficient room between your knees and the edge of your seat (at least 1-3 inches).

Back when Melissa Cameron discovered in the Internet in 2003, she immediately fell in love with freelance writing. She loves doing research on a variety of subjects and is currently writing a series of articles on the back. Her articles emphasize the importance of developing an ergonomic work space after a discussion with a Chiropractor in Sacramento, CA.
