Garden Decor causes people to go crazy. There is hard medical and psychological evidence available that suggests that abstract garden art combined with the springtime air can cause a condition commonly referred to as: “Are You Out Of Your Mind!!”
Once the nursery and garden signs go up people start convincing themselves that they are landscape architects. They really believe that they can create works of art right outside of their back doors.
Now don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against unique garden decor. I have seen some very nice items that can be placed in a garden and they will look perfectly fine. They have started making metal garden decor that really could be considered art if it wasn’t depicting a chicken pecking at the ground.
But not all garden decor is so cheesy. No my friends, lawn and garden decor also has brought us true American iconic figurines. Who has not seen the “homerun” of yard garden decor the “pink flamingo.” The pink flamingo was born in Florida (the epicenter of outdoor garden decor) and spread like wild fire across the continent and the world. Though I don’t think I have seen them in France.
Garden planters have now moved into the “fancy” space. A plain planter meant for flowers is no longer acceptable. Now they have to depict a scene, be in a funny shape, or have more than one use. I think they actually sell one that is also a BBQ.
Garden items are a multi-billion dollar business. So I guess it shouldn’t be too surprising that the manufactures, who are in the business of marketing products, would come up with very strange and mysterious uses for home and garden decor.
I really don’t have a problem with the way people choose to decorate their own little bit of nature. What I don’t particularly like is when they fill their yards up with cheap garden decor.
When I was down in Phoenix recently I did notice that garden wall decor has become popular. They have lizards on the wall, cactus bushes, and desert scenery. I have to admit it looked pretty good. So all is not lost.
If you use these items for garden decor accents then everything will be fine. It is when they take over the garden, the yard, the sunroom, and the entire neighborhood that things are just getting to be a bit much. Seeing pink flamingos in North Dakota is just too much for me to handle.
If you don’t know how to decorate (ask your friends they will tell you) then maybe the art of the outdoors and yard garden decor can picked out by the professionals.
Gardens should make you happy. So if you like garden decor that is a little off beat….then go for it.
