If you are trying to find a system to help you lose weight and you’re looking for a quick solution, you have to not only reduce the amount of calories that you are taking in, you also have to expend more calories. This means taking exercise.  How to lose weight with exercise is not going to be easy, especially in the beginning.

Most people who are overweight have become so because of several different factors. A lot of people just eat too much. Some people eat because they are sad, other people eat because they are surrounded by food in their workplace, or more commonly, people just have a natural tendency to put on weight as they get older. Another reason for putting on weight is lack of exercise. The equation of burning the same amount of calories as you are taking in applies just so that you can maintain the same weight. The problem with normal types of exercise, going out to a long brisk walk or jogging up and down the football field, is that your body takes a while to get used to the exercise, to build up stamina, once the stamina has been established, your body gets used to the exercise and that particular exercise stops being as effective. Interval training tries to overcome this problem. The way interval training works is you start out at one level of effort and you raise the level at specific intervals, going back to the original level of effort to recover.

I will give you an example. Let’s say that you normally go out for a 5 km brisk walk. With interval training you would divide that 5 km into different sections. The sections could be divided up either in terms of distance or they can be in terms of time. So, if you’re 5 km walk normally takes an hour to achieve, you break it down into sections of one minutes to begin with. You walk for one minute, and then you run for one minute. Each minute of running is interspersed with a period where you are getting your breath back, recovery. This can be longer than one minute at the beginning, possibly five minutes. The idea now is to put your body through different intensities of workout. Your body is unable to get used to this as quickly, thus burning more calories.

You will find that this form of exercise to lose weight is far more beneficial to you. Once your stamina has increased, you should increase the interval times. Eventually you will be able to jog during your recovery periods and sprint for your high-intensity periods. You can also use this method of high intensity interval training when you are doing a circuit of the local gym.

Does running help you lose weight is what a lot of people want to know. The answer is yes. If your goal is to get fit, lose weight, and feel healthy then running is certainly a step in the right direction. One thing you should keep in mind about running is that it is hard on your body. Something less stressful like walking, swimming, or biking are examples of less stressful exercises.
