Movies that burst onto the screen with color, sharpness, and clarity is what the high definition camcorder promises and delivers.

In living rooms today, a digital high definition camcorder (these are also known as a HD camcorder) are a perfect fit to the new high definition televisions.

Each and every year, high definition camcorder manufactures continue to improve upon quality increasing the number of high definition models at a more attractive selling price. The video resolution is the main difference between the high definition camcorder and standard definition (SD) which is similar to the standard TV picture. There are hundreds and hundreds of small different lines in the picture or video you see on the screen of your TV. There are approximately 1,080 horizontal lines of resolution with an HD and approximately 480 in a SD.

The quality of the image or video depends on the more lines of resolution you have. 1080p, 1080i and 720p are the three main resolutions of HD videos available. The standard resolution in the market place comes with 720p or 1080i resolution.  We will look into the resolution question a bit more in just a moment, but for now you should be aware that the high definition camcorder 1080p is the king of the hill.  It is the HDTV camcorder of choice for people that take their movie making even half way serious.

When you are in the market for digital video cameras there comes a point when you are going to have to make a decision whether to save your money and get a discounted version of  top of the line camera or you are going to buy the best HD camera available.  This is not always an easy choice.  Most of us would like to buy the very best but, much too frequently our finances will give us a wake up call and reality sets in when we go to a store like Best Buy, COSTCO, Sam’s Club, or WalMart.

The best HD camcorder can set you back thousands of dollars.  There are versions of top of the line camcorders that can cost over ten and even twenty thousand dollars.  Is there a need for you to purchase one of these monsters?  Unless you are planning on going into the movie business or the porn business then probably not.

YouTube or the family video album that you keep on your computer really does not require that you shoot with such high end equipment.  You really would be better spending some of your extra money on top of the line movie maker editing software.  It is the editing of the scene that people will notice more than some indistinguishable higher end version of a camera’s picture.

A digital camcorder, high definition or SD, will take good enough pictures for the average person.  But to be realistic, you should only be looking at and seriously considering purchasing the best high definition camcorder that you can afford.  You need to think about it logically.

The last television that you  purchased was not one of those old tube TV’s.  It isn’t that the tube TV’s don’t work anymore, but they are yesterday’s  technology.  You more than likely went out and bought a high definition television.  Why buy yesterday’s technology when vast improvements have been made that don’t really cost that much more money.  You might not use all of the features of the new equipment, but one day you might and you will want them on all of the new HDTV camcorders that you buy today.

How do the 1080i, 1080p and the 720p Video’s Differ?

The way they record the video is the main difference. The “p” stands for progressive scan, the “i” stands for interlaced. The standard definition video is interlaced as with the 1080i. Your high definition camcorder will record every other line of resolution in interlaced video. It starts by showing line 1, 3, 5, then follow later with 2, 4, and 6. With the progressive scan video, it records each line of video instead of skipping lines. Therefore, it starts with the first line and then continues on. The appearance is much better with progressive scan.

What is Full HD?

Camcorders that record in 1920 x 1080 resolutions are referred to as Full HD. If you have 1920 x 1080 instead of a 720 p you will have a much smarter model.  Here is the low down on Full High Definition Camcorders and Full High Definition TV:  First, they will both have Progressive Scanning.  The next thing you will need to know is that the number reason that progressive scanning is considered so much more superior to interlaced is because of less jitter.  This becomes very apparent when objects move quickly across the screen.  The naked eye, without any training, can pick up on the jittery picture.

On a digital high definition camcorder the movies that you make will not be of a high enough quality to enjoy once compared to a progressive scan video.  If you will be viewing the camcorder pictures on a LCD monitor or a plasma monitor then Full HD is the only way to go.  Remember the larger the screen the more noticeable the imperfections.

What is AVCHD?

Among others AVCHD refers to an HD video typically used by the three major manufacturers like Canon, Sony and Panasonic, to name a few. Like hard disk drives and flash memory cards, AVCD is a way to save high definition video into digital storage media.  A high definition DVD camcorder can come equipped with an included internal memory.  That means that you can purchase a hard drive camcorder.
