Even Small Addiction Can Be Big Trouble
Are you suffering from some form of addiction or know someone that might be? Addiction is such a cunning enemy of life. Luckily it can be arrested. There are all types of addiction. Sex addiction, gambling addiction, hydrocodone addiction, alcohol addiction, and even caffeine can be a addiction. What qualifies a addiction. An addiction can be anything that is causing problems and unmanageability in your life, yet you have no control over stopping it. Someone does not have to let their addiction drive them to the point of losing everything to have a real “addiction”. I know I have told myself that I would not spend more than $50 when I have gone out shopping, yet I ended up spending $400 and as a result had a really difficult time paying all my bills that month. That is just one example of a addiction, in that case a shopping addiction, that caused unmanageability even after I had planed not to.
Do not minimize any type of addiction. If left unchecked even the smallest addiction can lead to big problems down the road. Let’s take for example a serious type of addiction portrayed in society, heroin addiction. Heroin addiction is known for terrible withdrawal symptoms. But did you know that your body is required to detox for the same amount as time with a caffeine addiction and nicotine addiction? The symptoms may not be as bad as with heroin, but they are terrible withdrawal symptoms none the less.
If you feel that you may be suffering from any type of addiction, have no fear. There are avenues for help…There is addiction rehab. Fortunately most addictions stem from the same root problem, so if you keep a open mind, the thing that helps people get off of heroin can also help you with your gambling problem and vice versa. Church, a 12 step program, single and group therapy have all worked great in my life. Talk to your doctor or check your local phone book for the number of the 12 step meeting closest to you.
Always remember that addiction can be cured!
