Pahrump NV is a small town that is located exactly 60 miles west of Las Vegas, NV on Hwy 163. The population of Pahrump NV varies according to the season. In the summer when it is very hot the population is at its lowest. During the winter months when the daytime temperature averages about 60F, the population increases from the influx of visitors and tourists from colder climates. In all, Pahrump Nevada has an average population of 35,000 people.
Pahrump NV hotels are plentiful and reasonably priced. There are three major hotel/casinos in Pahrump NV. There is the Pahrump Nugget, The Saddle West, and Terrible’s Lake Side. There is also The Best Western Pahrump Station which is a very nice hotel that does not have a casino attached to it. If you are planning to visit the town during the weekend it is advisable to make reservations at any of the hotels in Pahrump NV. The town definitely fills up during the weekend. If you can’t find a hotel room then you can probably stay at a Pahrump NV motel.
There are very few jobs in Pahrump NV to be found. The largest employers in Pahrump are WalMart, Home Depot, and of course the casinos. These are not high paying jobs. Perhaps that is the reason that there are so many retired people living in the town.
A lot of retired people from California moved to Pahrump in the late 1990′s and kept moving right up until the real estate bubble burst. They were able to sell their houses in California and build Pahrump NV homes for cash and still have a bundle left over. Pahrump land was cheap back then. Now it is quite expensive, though deals are starting to pop up as the economy takes its toll and people become desperate for money.
While there are no lakes in town (except the small one at Terrible’s Lakeside Casino), Lake Mead NV is only a 90 minute drive away. There you can fish, boat, water ski, and just enjoy the beautiful scenery.
If you get real bored you can go have dinner and a bottle of wine at the winery. What you say? That’s right there is an actual winery here. Pretty popular!
Weather – Pahrump NV weather really is the sole reason why the town exists and has become a growth community. Well the weather along with the reasonable cost of housing compared to Las Vegas. In the summer months the temperatures soar to above 100F. The payback comes in the winter with mild temps that average 60F. It does cool off at night and you should expect to wear a sweater or a coat. Rainfall is just about non-existent here. When it does rain there is a danger of flash flooding. You can expect sunshine 90% of the time and snowfall is just about unheard of.
Some people like living in Pahrump and others can’t wait to move someplace else. It all depends on what you are looking for. There is limited shopping, no movie theaters, and few cultural events. What the town does offer is wide open spaces, a reasonable cost of housing, a Corvette driving school, a low crime rate, friendly people, great weather, and a small town atmosphere. Pahrump NV is a place you should make a side trip to the next time you are in Las Vegas.
