Solar lights were the first “green” item to gain popularity and traction with the general public.  Most people would think that solar lights became popular because they used less electricity, did not run your power bill up, or they shut off automatically when they were no longer needed.  But those people would be wrong.

Solar power lights became popular because they are much less expensive to install.  It used to be that If you wanted landscape lights or accent lights outside you would have to call a electrician who would dig up your yard so that he could run wires underground to where you wanted the lights.  Not only would your yard get torn up, but the bill that would be presented to you for the live wire being run from your house to where the lights were going to be would be enormous.

So when outdoor solar lights became an option, people jumped on them because of the initial economic savings that they presented.  Of course now-a-days people will tell you that they are concerned about the environment and that is why they use them.  But just between me and you, I believe that it is still the initial cash outlay that drives them towards the solar option.

Low voltage outdoor lighting is perfect for accent lights or border lighting.  The lights that people install at the edge of sidewalks (pathway lights) or driveways are a perfect example of the type of lighting that solar helps solve at a low cost.

Solar garden lights is another place where the solar option is uniquely suited to handle the task at hand.  Most of the lights are attached to spikes that you can easily stick in the ground.  So it becomes a quick way to experiment with placement and effectiveness of the lights.  All gardens look more dramatic at night when lights are being shown on them.

Low voltage landscape lighting can be used for all types of effects.  Whether you are trying to illuminate a path, water feature, tree, or just light up a dark corner, there is no need for expensive solutions that demand high energy bills.

Another way to use this new technology is with solar deck lights.  This is an area where you don’t need “spotlight” type intensity.  Normally you just need enough light so people can see each other and their immediate surroundings.  Deck lights are made so that they look attractive no matter where you place them.  And once again you don’t have the worry, expense, or concern of running electrical wires.

Whether it is outdoor deck lighting or path lights the bottom line is that you need to get the job done with a viable economic outlay that accomplishes the task without compromise.  Solar lights performs both of these tasks with flying colors.

Many people have garden decor that they want illuminated at night.  It lends a dramatic effect to their landscape architecture.  This is a perfect job for led solar lights.  They are easily aimed, bright, and can be focused directly on the object that you would like lit up.  As an added benefit, led lights have a long life and do not have to be changed very often.

Patio lighting is another area where you don’t really want to go in a tear up walls and floors in order to run wires for lights.  With today’s patio lights you can have the lights under a roof or overhang while having the small solar panel that generates the power for these lights up above where direct sunlight can charge them.

There is no doubt that outdoor lighting is going solar.  I’m confident that in the future all outdoor lights that are installed will not have wires.  Those days are over.  New technology has made it on the scene.  And as always in history when new technology becomes cost effective it will diminish the use of the old ways until they become completely obsolete.

Outdoor solar lights is the first shot in this war against high priced lighting options.  The day will come when the wireless transfer of energy needed to light indoor lighting will appear on the scene and on that day all lights will be powered by the new technology.

Solar powered lights are most widely being utilized in residential settings right now.  But the day will come, and come soon, when outside solar lights become common place in all commercial settings.  With business becoming very adroit at squeezing every penny of profit out of their available cash, solar lights presents a unique and easy option to save money.

We have spoken quite a bit on the subject of garden lights and exterior lights.  And a use has been found for what is perhaps the most costly of outdoor lighting:  street lights.

Solar street lights are now becoming the norm.  Just about every new street light that is installed is being lit by solar lights.  And they are all dusk to dawn lights so that there is no waste at all.

Solar lights are here to stay and in reality that is a good thing for our wallets as well as the environment.
