When kitting out the bar in your pub or club, it’s easy to forego anything beyond pumps, optics and glasses. After all, those are the three key parts to any bar and would render the whole outfit somewhat useless without them. However, many forget the sheer wealth of other bar supplies that can make the whole operation runs more smoothly and ensures that nothing (and nobody) goes wanting.
Bottle Openers
The oft-forgotten bottle opener is one of the key pieces of equipment but one often forgotten about until the exact moment in which you need it. They come in many different shapes and sizes, from the universally popular plunger (the one which looks like a person doing aerobics) to the waiter’s friend; a collapsible device which has much in common with a swiss army knife, offering a number of gadgets to open any kind of bottle quickly, cleanly and affectively.
Little known fact – the actual corkscrew part of a bottle opener is not strictly called that. It, instead, is a ‘worm’.
Utensils
Even if your pub or bar does not serve food you will still need a few utensils close at hand. Whether it’s to chop lemons or squeeze the juice out of limes, having a parer and chopping board handy will mean that you never get caught without the tools at hand to offer a patron exactly what they are asking for. If, however, you want to offer a large number of citrus wedges, then a ‘wedger’ will be the utensil for you, offering a safe and quick way in which to chop fruits into perfectly-shaped wedges.
So yes, the lifeblood of a bar is indeed housed in the pumps, optics and glasses. But in today’s competitive industry it’s not just about having the bare bones but fleshing them out with the kinds of finishing touches that makes the running of the bar smooth and effortless, whilst encouraging customers to keep coming back time and time again.
